Goa’s airport, Dabolim, is south of the state capital Panaji, approximately 70
kilometres (ninety minutes drive) from Patnem. Most of India’s domestic airlines
operate here and several direct charter companies fly into Goa from the UK and
Europe.
Patnem’s nearest town is Chaudi, which has both a bus and train station
(Canacona) as well as cash point machines (ATM). There are regular buses or you
can get an autorickshaw for around 50 Indian rupees each way.
There are also good local medical facilities with doctors and a private hospital just
two kilometres away.
Handy Hints on What to Bring:
Medical: You can get most things you might need at local pharmacists. However
you may want to bring a basic first aid kit. It’s not a bad idea to take some good
quality probiotics before traveling to India to ensure good belly health. Some
travelers swear by Grapefruit Seed Extract, a good natural remedy for stomach
problems which is available in Europe and the US, but more difficult to get in India.
Clothing: Most people live in swimwear and sarongs and loose cool clothing. You
will need to bring a jumper or something warmer for the evening when it gets a little
cooler. (usually December thru mid-February). We’ve only ever worn flip flops on
our feet, although we’ve seen the odd person in trainers!
Beach towels: Most people tend to use a sarong on the beach, available in
abundance locally!
Other: Torch. Most paths are unlit at night and we have been known to have the
odd power cut! Again, don't worry if you forget anything as you can buy most things
locally.
